Guest Artisan Program

Craft East Buyers’ Expo is Atlantic Canada’s premiere gift show for Canadian handmade products. Our upcoming wholesale trade event is scheduled for February 9-10, 2019 at the Homewood Suites Hotel & Conference Centre in downtown Halifax.

Craft East is inviting a select group of juried craftspeople and artisans from across Canada to join our trade show as part of our Guest Artisan Program. Expressions of Interest are now being accepted from craft producers to attend the annual Craft East Buyers’ Expo.

Craft East Buyers’ Expo (formerly Atlantic Craft Trade Show) started 40 years ago as a means to promote and market handcrafted products from Atlantic Canada. Over the years, the show has developed a reputation for high-quality juried products and for great warmth, welcome and hospitality to attending buyers.

The trade show features a unique Incoming Buyer Program, for first time buyers to the show and attracts buyers from Atlantic Canada and across North America.

Craft East Buyers’ Expo is owned and operated Craft Alliance ~ Alliance métiers d’arts, a craft industry led trade association. Craft Alliance provides marketing opportunities for craft businesses. The Alliance is a key leader in the Atlantic craft industry by working to develop regionally based projects to further the goals of the partner organizations.

The Guest Artisan Program was launched with our craft industry partners to strengthen the wholesale expo and the craft industry as a whole. The four Atlantic provincial crafts councils are our key partners, along with other craft sector guilds and institutions.

Craft East Buyers’ Expo

Craft East Buyers’ Expo will take place at the Homewood Suites/Silver Birch Conference Centre in downtown Halifax. The show attracts a wide range of retailers from Atlantic Canada, central and western Canada, as well as the United States. The show features the work of juried craft producers from across Atlantic Canada. The tourism market is one of our largest economic drivers, generating an estimated $3.24 billion annually for the Atlantic region’s economy. This is a key market for craft and retail giftware sales in our region.

Criteria and Eligibility

The following is a guideline for participation and does not constitute the complete requirements for participation in the trade show. Craft East Buyers’ Expo reserves the right to accept or reject any or all applicants. All work will be juried by our Jury Committee; their decision is final.

The Guest Artisan Program is an invitation to a limited number of craft producers from outside Atlantic Canada. We are asking interested producers to complete our pre-screening to determine eligibility. From this list of interested producers, Craft East will develop a shortlist of invitees who will then be asked to submit an application and complete the jury process.

All work must be hand made in Canada and the craftsperson(s) must be Canadian citizens or landed immigrants and the business must also be located in Canada.

The craftsperson must be the designer and producer of the products. No products produced from commercial sources will be accepted. Sales Representatives and Agents are not allowed. All participants must provide a minimum of three trade references in the form of current wholesale accounts.

Jury Process

A jury review process will take place in Fall 2017. All new applicants must complete the required web application process before being juried.  Craft East may contact you to request additional information that is not included in the general online application. Work will be juried based on quality, design, workmanship, and suitability for the wholesale market.

Applicants will be advised of their acceptance once the committee has reviewed their submission. If any applicant is not accepted all monies paid will be refunded.

All producers must submit digital images of their products to be shown at the trade show. Images of booth display should also be included.
